Follow Up

Following up after every interaction will be crucial to setting yourself apart from other job candidates.

How and When to Follow Up

The final and most crucial step is to follow up. Whether you have had a job interview, an informational interview, dropped off a resume, or spoke at a job fair. You should always follow up if you receive contact information from a potential employer or professional contact. Not only does this show professionalism and courtesy, but it also puts you at the forefront of someone's mind. Do this by sending a simple thank you email. Be sure to bring up something memorable from the conversation or interview to help them remember you. When following up after a job interview, it's best to do it within 24 hours and reiterate your interest in the job. When following up from an informational interview, resume drop-off, or job fair, thank them for their time and ask them if you can stay in contact with them.
