New License Requirements Implementation Date

The new license requirements implementation date has been moved from Tuesday, January 1, 2019 to Monday, February 4, 2019.

License Candidates

This does not apply to certification candidates. It is for all license candidates including: Certified Public Bookkeeper (CPB), Certified Accounting Paraprofessional (CAP), Certified Accounting Analyst (CAA), Certified QuickBooks Advisor (CQA), and Certified Payroll Specialist (CPS).

License Requirement Change

Beginning Monday, February 4, 2019, license candidates will be required to possess experience to obtain their license.

Current Requirements

Currently candidates apply for a license by education or experience as follows:

License by Education

  1. Pass the Uniform License Examination,
  2. Possess an Associate or bachelor's degree in accounting or complete our Education Alternative,
  3. Agree to abide by the Code of Professional Conduct,
  4. Obtain 24 hours of CPE credit each year, and
  5. Complete and Submit the Application for Licensure.

License by Experience

  1. Pass the Uniform License Examination,
  2. Possess Two-years (4,000 hours) of Bookkeeping or Accounting Experience,
  3. Agree to Abide by the Code of Professional Conduct,
  4. Obtain 24 hours of CPE credit each year, and
  5. Complete and Submit the Application for Licensure.

New Requirements

The new requirements beginning Monday, February 4, 2019 include an education and experience requirement as follows:

License by Education and Experience

  1. Pass the Uniform License Examination,
  2. Possess an associate or bachelor's degree in accounting or complete our Education Alternative,
  3. Possess one-year (2,000 hours) of bookkeeping or accounting experience,
  4. Agree to abide by the Code of Professional Conduct,
  5. Obtain 24 hours of CPE credit each year, and
  6. Complete and submit the Application for Licensure.

The current requirements are in effect until Sunday, February 3, 2019. However, any candidate who:

  1. meets the current requirements and applies for the license by Sunday, February 3, 2019 OR
  2. has or will purchase the Education Alternative courses and exams or License Exam Preparation Program by Sunday, February 3, 2019 will be grandfathered in and must meet the current requirements and apply for the license by December 31, 2019.
